Transmission Planning Engineer, United Kingdom

A Transmission Planning Engineer is required to assist in the development and planning of Transmission dark fiber / SDH Microwave Network. Working for a large Mobile Telecoms organization this role will require knowledge of 3G & microwave transmission network planning.

Responsibilities / Core Tasks:
  • Planning activities for extension of fibre routes directly to Transmission High Sites
  • Planning activities for SDH microwave backhaul onto the dark fibre network
  • Develop strategy for upgrade of Node B sites to POPs for SDH MW collection.
  • Develop standard design for POP site, cabin type, and tower requirements.
  • Formulate strategy for upgrade of Transmission High Sites to accommodate dark fibre connection.
  • Planning of site layout, equipment schedule & upgrade methodology.
  • Detailed planning of upgrade I&C activities on an individual site basis.
  • Co-ordination of site surveys, planning of new equipment cabins, towers, SDH MW planning
Key requirements:
  • Excellent background gained in a telecoms environment
  • Strong working knowledge and background of 3G & microwave transmission network planning
  • Active involvement and understanding of fibre network planning & design
  • Proven success in delivery of technical projects
  • Practical knowledge / understanding of an operational network environment, ability to understand and foresee risks, problems & issues from a technical and operational perspective
  • Good knowledge of Cramer.
