RAN Performance Engineer, England


An outstanding opportunity is available within a prominent telecommunications company, looking to recruit a RAN Performance Engineer with a particular emphasis on Nokia and Ericsson equipment.

The role will be responsible for ensuring network performance is always at a maximum, in accordance with the SLA's and KPI's. Aspects of the role are set to include:
  • Ensuring all performance faults and degradations are captured in the trouble ticketing systems, as well as providing regular and accurate updates.
  • Ensuring all performance faults are managed through to resolution or escalating where required.
  • Interfacing and providing assistance to other areas within the RAN Teams.
Additional requirements for this position will include:

Transmission Support Engineer, England


A fantastic opportunity for the position of Transmission Support Engineer, working for a global Telecommunications company in the UK to be based in Berkshire.

The Transmission Support Engineer MUST have:
  • Technical working background with Ericsson Mini-Link TN and Siae Al series MW and NMS SoM, Nortel Passport/MDM/MDP and NMS5UX in an Operational or Development Organization
  • Broad technical appreciation of Nortel and Alcatel Transmission, ATM and Ethernet technologies and their applications in a mobile operator environment
  • Appreciation of the importance of change management in an Operational Environment
The responsibilities of the role would involve:
  • Responsible for ensuring the integration and acceptance to Operations is carried out in a controlled manner and has the correct processes in place to ensure operations targets and KPIs are maintained.
  • Responsible for inter-working with Access Transmission Team Leaders and Project teams within Ericsson to determine the responsible delivery of new projects (I.e network enhancements, expansions or reductions).
  • Contribute ideas for improvement and optimisation in all areas of Ethernet delivery
  • In conjunction with the Back Office Team Leaders ensure the project has the required technical tools and documentation to complete required tasks (SW, NMS access, CLI Scripts, processes, TTO access and training)
  • Have appropriate skills to support the MW Ethernet network for fault resolution and provisioning
This is an exciting role working on a major Ethernet upgrade project for a global Telecommunications company. There is both excellent longevity and career prospects in this position, and you must be able to start by the end of the year.

You must have worked within a mobile environment and have an excellent background with transmission support in a Back Office capacity, have worked with Ethernet before and have strong microwave skills.

Job Title : Back Office Nokia RAN Support Engineer Department RAN Operations

Paying £325 - £350 Per day.

Overall Job description:

  • To be part of, and to effectively contribute to, the objectives and work of the Back Office RAN Support team.
  • Highly specialised systems engineer providing technical support and guidance for O&M engineers
  • Escalate & Liase with Vendors & service providers for 4th line support until resolution
  • Support during Vendor / Supplier ORM's with technical / statistical data as required
Responsibilities :
  • 3rd line technical support for all aspects of the Nokia RAN comprising RNC, AXC and Node B elements
  • Responsible for high level analysis, diagnosis and problem solving on the RAN
  • Advising on the processes and procedures within ETL that the RAN Support team are responsible for and have involvement with.
  • Interfacing with Engineering and Network rollout to ensure that all technical issues that will affect the operational environment are included in testing, discussions etc
  • Ensure that all necessary hardware and software functionality is included and performance limitations are understood within Operations.
  • Advising of any skills that are required within the team.
  • Ensure that sufficient documentation exists to be able to audit RNC’s.
  • Ensure that accurate RNC configuration documentation is maintained and an adequate disaster recovery procedure is produced.
  • Closely monitoring the planned works on the deployed RAN on a switch by switch basis, to ensure that network availability is sufficiently maintained taking the necessary corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensure that the RAN availability is maintained whilst carrying out hardware and software upgrades.
  • To maintain maximum levels of RAN availability by assisting in the development and / or enhancement, of reactive & proactive skills and processes.
  • Ensuring that the RAN security is maintained at all times.
  • Advising the team responsible for the above activities, assisting with prioritising work and giving direction and motivation.
  • Effectively escalate & liaise with Vendor support until fault resolution.
  • Out of hours support as part of an on-call rota

My client is one of the biggest players within the Mobile and Telecoms Industry. As part of a UK wide network convergence project they are keen to employ an experienced Transmission Solutions Architect to become a key part of their Reading or Hatfield operations. This is a contract position that requires excellent knowledge of RAN and Nokia and is likely last the duration of the project estimated to run a further 24 months.

You will ideally possess the following:
  • Excellent knowledge of Nokia RAN transmission and Iub configuration and practical experience in the design and configuration of Nokia Iub Essential
  • Excellent skills in XML coding, Visual Basic, Microsoft Access Desirable
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in the planning of Access and Backbone transmission technology deployed in the 3G networks Desirable
  • Knowledge of T-Mobile planning tools (eg Apollo, Nemesis, Spectrum Desirable)

  3. Host workshops as necessary to scope requirements for development
  4. Production and update of Iub configuration templates for Nokia RAN, covering all aspects of configuration of RNC CoCo, Node B AXC and transmission module.
  5. Development of Nokia site XML files and RNC CoCo: build, export, analyse xml from live sites/RNC, adapting code to reflect new Iub design for all site types and site capacities.
  6. Testing of Iub configuration files prior to release and widespread use
  7. Support release of new Iub XML templates into Apollo tool
  8. Produce documentation for manual configuration of Iub CoCo / AXC / Transmission Module using NetAct
  9. Provide planning support, training & workshops to regional planning engineers and field staff on all aspects of Iub configuration, acting as design authority
  10. Verification of Iub design integrity in the consolidated network using network management tools as required and implementing corrective action as required
  11. Provision on monthly reports on accuracy of Iub configurations in the network
  12. Design and definition of ATM connectivity supporting the Iub including all aspects of the ATM configuration design through the ATM switching network.
  13. Support to Operational ATM configuration teams on queries with end-end ATM configuration.
  14. Plan, design and deliver transmission solutions to provide capacity and functionality for key customer networks, providing technical design input into the project delivery.

  • Create and load H3G RNC XML print-back files into Oracle database, (ABCS).
  • Follow the SAP process of creating new and modify the existing configurations of Nokia RNC, WBTS, WCELL with MBNL new names and IDs in ABCS and create XML files and Commissioning files
  • Forward the XML and Commissioning files to the RAN Configuration Engineers to be loaded into NetAct
  • Once the XML and Commissioning Files have been loaded successfully, use ABCS to audit the new or re-configured WBTS, WCELL and Transmission to confirm the implementation is correct.
  • Check alarms and operational CS/PS call handling statistics to ensure the element is working correctly.
  • Maintain data integrity and storage utilisation by performing regular house-keeping tasks in ABCS using SQL and/or MS ACCESS.
Working with RNC design in MBNL and Core configuration teams if necessary to resolve any ambiguity, error or duplications of configuration data.

  • Develop strategy for upgrade of Node B sites to POPs for SDH MW collection. Develop standard design for POP site, cabin type, tower requirements.
  • Formulate strategy for upgrade of Transmission High Sites to accommodate dark fibre connection.
  • Planning of site layout, equipment schedule & upgrade methodology. Detailed planning of upgrade I&C activities on an individual site basis.
  • Co-ordination of site surveys, planning of new equipment cabins, towers, SDH MW planning
  • Cost modeling / business plan justification
  • Overall Project Planning / delivery and update of Milestone Project Plan
  • Scheduling & management of suppliers for key deliverable
  • On site supervision of suppliers activities for transmission.

NSS/MSS Ericsson Telecom Engineer, England

The position is to handle the NSS tasks and assign to the relevant engineers, the aim is to utilise the best practises, the relevant reporting & procedure and to acquire the best knowledge and skills as possible to handle O&M, dimensioning and integration tasks.

The Candidate must be able to bring support on NSS/MSS aspects; the support concerns the troubleshooting, the O&M and integration on the MSC-S/MGW and HLR nodes - you will work closely with the O&M and the integration NSS/MSS engineers, and must provide support and assistance to them if requested in order to achieve the objective, and by that act as NSS/MSS team leader - you will also have Deep Knowledge of Ericsson MSS/NSS Axe nodes and commands.

As a matter of urgency, auditing of the MSC-S/MGW at all levels will need attention, and as a daily task, trouble shoot systems/operations to improve efficiency/best practices.

Troubleshooting, integration, reporting, recommending are also key, in addition to the appropriate technical skills, you will be a good leader, be a persuasive and effective communicator, and be confident in your convictions for the road map forward.

You will ideally have 3 - 5 years experience in a similar role.
