Core Network Planning Engineer
Review, analyze, and forecast all switch upgrades, additions and growth for the Midwest and/or other assigned regions determined by management. Develop cost benefit analysis for growth, additions, and changes in switching system, voice mail platforms, STP/SS7 network, and mobile switching center peripheral equipment. Order, track, document, and manage implementation of new software/hardware for switching systems.
Responsibilities :
- Long term (5 years) Mobile Switching Center (MSC) planning including development of fundamental plans for upgrades, changes/additions to switch/peripheral equipment, voice mail systems, DACS, multiplexers/STP's, and support equipment.
- Preparation of Demand & Facilities charts to reflect required capacity and utilization data for all switch hardware, e.g. DTC, ICP, memory and processors.
- Track cell site and transport forecasts for the purpose of forecasting switch expansions.
- Work with regions to develop and maintain equipment layout and assignment records and actively load balance ICPs and DTCs insuring balance load and assignment to take advantage of shelf/cabinet diversity between contiguous cell sites.
- Maintain floor plans for each MSC including power, grounding, telco access and other appropriate information.
- Adhere to technology development standards to insure that each MSC has same layout and architecture.
- Manage the implementation of new products and technologies into the current MSC structure and design.
- Design, project, order, track and manage the implementation of new software/hardware.
- Work with region to prepare budget submission including future cell site growth, PSTN trunk requirements and other switch and support equipment growth.
- Provide documentation of existing and future equipment in MSC's.
- Forecast and manage the SS7/ISUP trunk and messaging capacity, growth and expansion.
- Track and update Base Engineering Parameters when new cells, ICP/DTCs and ISUP trunks are added.
- Research and provide insight on issues related to unused trunks, translations, and datafill using memory and processor time.
Qualifications :
- BSEE or other technical degree preferred.
- 3 - 5 years experience in cellular design and optimization experience.
- Networking and Network Operations experience is desirable.
- Experience on Nortel MTX and Lucent FPS switches required.
- Industry experience in traffic planning engineering, switch and facility projection required.
Travel Required : 25% of the time
