Switch Operations Group Engineer, England


A leading global provider of mobile, telecommunication and data communication systems are now looking to recruit contract Engineers to act as Switch Operations Group Engineers within a major network consolidation project likely to continue for the next 12 months. Together with solid experience in a mobile Switch environment you will also be able to control complex technical situations in a calm and professional manner.

To be considered for the role you will also have:
  • Understanding of 2G Nortel and Ericsson Switching Platforms and command structure.
  • Understanding of 3G Nokia Switching Platforms and command structure.
  • Proficient databuilder
  • Knowledge of Nokia Node Bs and RNCs and Flexi BTS
  • Knowledge of Nokia NetAct

This is a technically challenging position that will involve the following responsibilities:
  • Software/Hardware Upgrades/Expansions on Node B's and RNCs via Netact and Local connection
  • Responsible for the operation and ongoing maintenance of regional and national NODE B's
  • Implementing SAC'S LACS, Routing Zones and assigning NODE B's to Media Gateways. Ration, maintenance of T-Mobile's Nokia 3g RAN incorporating RNC's Node B's and AXC's
  • Upgrading AXC by loading latest XML Files
  • Ensuring all network elements are integrated to NETACT
  • Upgrading the Node B and Flexi BTS Remote Antenna Units
  • Making adjustments to 3G RAN using NETACT Network editor
  • Using SAP to implement change requests
  • Parameter changes on Node B's RNC's and AXC's
  • Datafill of Network Elements Liaising with project engineers for technical and staffing requirements

About the role:

  • Planning and creation of network configuration data and connectivity to vendors/Operations in agreed timeframes and to agreed standard.
  • Quality checks of all data /connectivity and information prepared before issue to the vendor to ensure that network errors are kept to a minimum.
  • Ensure that all planning databases and the network are consistent. Update, audit, maintain and create data for the radio, tx and core network.

Switch Planning Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Long term (5 years) Mobile Switching Center (MSC) planning including development of fundamental plans for upgrades, changes/additions to switch/peripheral equipment, voice mail systems, DACS, multiplexers/STP's, and support equipment.
  • Preparation of Demand & Facilities charts to reflect required capacity and utilization data for all switch hardware, e.g. DTC, ICP, memory and processors.
  • Track cell site and transport forecasts for the purpose of forecasting switch expansions.
  • Work with regions to develop and maintain equipment layout and assignment records and actively load balance ICPs and DTCs insuring balance load and assignment to take advantage of shelf/cabinet diversity between contiguous cell sites.
  • Maintain floor plans for each MSC including power, grounding, telco access and other appropriate information.
  • Adhere to technology development standards to insure that each MSC has same layout and architecture.
  • Manage the implementation of new products and technologies into the current MSC structure and design.
  • Design, project, order, track and manage the implementation of new software/hardware.
  • Work with region to prepare budget submission including future cell site growth, PSTN trunk requirements and other switch and support equipment growth.
  • Provide documentation of existing and future equipment in MSC's.
  • Forecast and manage the SS7/ISUP trunk and messaging capacity, growth and expansion.
  • Track and update Base Engineering Parameters when new cells, ICP/DTCs and ISUP trunks are added.
  • Research and provide insight on issues related to unused trunks, translations, and datafill using memory and processor time.

Qualifications
  • BSEE or other technical degree preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years experience in cellular design and optimization experience.
  • Networking and Network Operations experience is desirable.
  • Experience on Nortel MTX and Lucent FPS switches required.
  • Industry experience in traffic planning engineering, switch and facility projection required.

Travel Required : 25% of the time
Experience Required: 3 yrs
Preferred Major : Engineering, IT
